Y-Wing Sudoku Strategy
Advanced technique Advanced
A Y-Wing uses one pivot cell and two wing cells to prove that a shared candidate cannot appear in cells that see both wings.
How to use it
- Find a pivot cell with two candidates.
- Find two visible wing cells that each share one pivot candidate.
- Confirm the two wings share the same extra candidate.
- Remove that extra candidate from any cell that can see both wings.
Practice: Use Expert puzzles for Y-Wing practice and keep candidates clean; stale candidates make this pattern hard to trust.
